The list of Europe’s 40 fastest growing digital health and medtech entrepreneurs has been made public today. The 40 companies will present their tech innovation to over 200 international investor and corporate partners at the 9th edition of the Tech Tour Healthtech Summit, taking place in Lausanne on the 25-27 of June, 2018.
Healthtech Summit past presenting companies have generated over €3.4 billion in deal value since the first edition in 2008, with 916 companies reviewed by selection committee members and 220 companies presenting over the last 8 editions. Past presenting companies include CeQur, EOS Imaging, Endosense, mindmaze, Occlutech, Sapiens, and Sophia Genetics. Now in its 9th year, the 2018 edition of the Summit saw over 160 applications from top-level applicants.
Diana Saraceni, Founder and Managing Partner at Panakès Partners led the process of selecting companies. The committee consisted of 33 experts from leading venture capital and health organisations including Boston Scientific, Draper Esprit, Earlybird Venture Capital, Gilde Healthcare Partners, Johnson & Johnson Innovation, Medtronic, Merck Global Health Innovation Fund, Omnes Capital, Peppermint Venture Partners, Philips, Salus Partners, Silicon Valley Bank, Sofinnova Partners, and UCB.
“This year we saw an unprecedented number of good companies applying for a presentation spot in both the Digital Healthcare and Medical Device stream. Each jury member was asked to push forward the companies they were most supportive of in general, refraining of course from any conflict of interest. As a result, we had a very passionate and insightful discussion on each company, leading to the best possible result for the selection. The discussions showed that the jury had a strong preference for projects with a high level of ambition and strong supporting evidence to medical claims.” – Diana Saraceni, Founder & General Partner at Panakès Partners.
The final 40 include 19 medtech companies and 21 digital health companies which come from Switzerland (20%), France (18%), the UK (15%), Germany (13%), Israel (8%), Italy (8%), Spain (5%), Ireland (5%), Portugal (5%), Belgium (3%), and Denmark (3%). The full list of companies and their descriptions can be viewed online and below.
Marco Mohwinckel, Chief Commercial Officer at COMPASS Pathways, Pharma & Healthtech Advisor and President of the Tech Tour 2018 Healthtech Summit commented, “I'm very grateful to Diana and the Selection Committee for the effort they put into selecting the companies. It was a very tough job, given the breadth and calibre of applications received this year. All entrepreneurs deserve a huge amount of respect. I look forward to seeing the selected companies at the Summit and encourage all entrepreneurs to join us in the future.”
