The State of Vaud is one of the main centers of research and innovation in Switzerland, with the largest campus in the country and several research centers as well as industries of international reputation, particularly in life sciences, micro-nanotechnologies, ICT and cleantech.

Through its support to the Healthtech Summit 2016, the State of Vaud aims to highlight the potential of its state-of-the-art industries and start-ups, as well as the very attractive economic and scientific conditions in the region.

The Office for Economic Affairs (SPECo) supports companies that are located in the State of Vaud, especially those involved in the sectors of advanced technology and industry. SPECo advises entrepreneurs and puts them in contact with organisations that are appropriate to their specific needs. SPECo can also provide direct financial support.

   CleantechAlps is the platform dedicated to the development of the clean technology sector in western Switzerland. The region’s gateway to the cleantech field, its purpose is to bring together all the research oorganizations industries and services that contribute to the protection and conservation of natural resources and the production of renewable energy. CleantechAlps is the region’s driving force for the development of the sector, promoting interaction between businesses and players in the field, and increasing their visibility. It is also the co-ordinator for western Switzerland of the activities of “Cleantech Switzerland”, the national export platform.

Alp ICT is the cluster for information and communication technologies in Western Switzerland. It promotes the Swiss digital expertise in the regional, national and international marketplaces and fosters synergies between companies, R&D, institutional and financial players. Alp ICT was initiated in 2008 by the cantons of Bern, Fribourg, Vaud, Neuchâtel, Geneva and Jura, and is supported by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO.

 

     
     
     

 

BAS (Business Angels Switzerland), is the largest and oldest business angels club in the country. It supports startup companies through capital financing. Member also share expertise, know-how and personal contacts with the companies they invest in. BAS members invest their own time and money, and financed more than 120 startups within the framework of the club. Start-up’s can register their project on the platform. BAS organises 24 events each year in Zürich, Lausanne or Geneva and Lake Constance area.

     
     
     

 

BioAlps is the life science cluster of Western Switzerland and notably represents all that is biotechnology and medical technology. Dedicated to promoting excellence and innovation in the sector, BioAlps is one of four clusters in Switzerland (BioAlps, Basel Area, Greater Zurich Area and Biopolo Ticino). Formed as an association, BioAlps is composed of cantonal members and academic and research institutions in Western Switzerland. It is supported by the Cantons of Bern, Fribourg, Vaud, Neuchatel, Geneva, Valais, Jura and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

Since the launch of venture kick in 2007, over 270 project teams have benefited from more than CHF10 million. It contributed to the creation of more than 2000 new jobs and a financing volume of about CHF365 million. The program is open to all young talents with innovative ideas, which have not yet founded their company and are enrolled/employed at a Swiss University. Venture kick is financed by the GebertRüfStiftung, ERNST GÖHNER STIFTUNG, OPO-Stiftung, AVINA STIFTUNG, Fondation Lombard Odier und DEBIOPHARM, and managed by the IFJ InstitutfürJungunternehmen in St. Gall. The objective is to double the amount of startups originating from Swiss universities and technical colleges. Each month, eight projects get the chance to present themselves to a jury. The four most promising receive CHF10'000 and qualify for the second round three months later, where the two best teams receive another CHF20'000. In the final round, taking place six months later, the winner is granted CHF100'000.
